British PM fears BP's 'destruction'

TORONTO/MIAMI (Reuters) - President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron were expected to discuss London-based BP Plc and the Gulf of Mexico oil spill on Saturday as stormy weather raised fears that clean-up operations could be disrupted.
U.S. | Green Business | Gulf Oil Spill
The oil spill, the worst in U.S. history, is overshadowing the first meeting between Obama and Cameron since the prime minister took office last month, which will take place on the sidelines of the G8/G20 summit in CanadaNHL jersey.
The British energy giant's share price is trading at 14-year lows after falling sharply again on Friday, when Cameron offered his strongest comments yet on the issue.
"It is ... in all our long-term interests that there is some clarity, some finality, to all of this, so that we don't at the same time see the destruction of a company that is important for all our interests," Cameron told Canadian broadcaster CBC.
"This is a vital company for all of our interests. ... BP itself wants to cap the well and clean up the spill and compensate those who have had damagesNFL jersey," Cameron said.
Obama has been highly critical of BP while his own poll ratings have fallen, in part because of perceptions that his handling of the crisis has been too slow.
British business and shareholder groups have meanwhile clamored for Cameron to defend the company.
But Cameron insisted on Friday he believed the matter called for gentle persuasion.
"This isn't an issue between Britain and America. This is about BP doing what it should, but also being treated in a way that enables it to go forward," he told reporters.
Far from the high-level talks, those involved in the clean-up and containment efforts were anxious about Saturday's formation of the first tropical storm of the 2010 Atlantic hurricane season in the western Caribbean, a development that could disrupt such operations for days or weeks.
Tropical storm Alex was located 250 miles east southeast of Chetumal, Mexico, and moving west-northwest at 8 mph. Its path would take it toward Belize and over the Yucatan Peninsula during the weekend and then into the Gulf of MexicoMLB jersey, where workers are battling to contain the spill, though it was too early to tell if it would affect such operations.
MOUNTING TOLL
In the Gulf, BP said its oil-capture systems collected or burned off 23,725 barrels of oil on Thursday.
U.S. Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allencheap MLB jersey, who oversees the federal relief effort, said BP was on track to nearly double its oil collection capacity next week -- weather cooperating.
The disaster is taking a mounting toll on fishing and tourist industries in the Gulf and threatens to wreak havoc on a grand scale on coastal ecosystems and wildlife.
Share losses for BP since the spill began on April 20 stand at around $100 billion, more than halving its market value prior to the disasteryouth MLB jersey, as investors fret about the potential costs which include but are not limited to a $20 billion compensation fund it set up under intense political pressure.
BP has added $5 billion to its available credit to ensure it has enough money to meet the cost of the spill, according to a story on the Wall Street Journal's website.
BP stock on Friday fell more than 6 percent in London and New York and its performance early next week may hinge on what Obama and Cameron have to say after their talks.

And the 2010 World Cup award winners are …

JOHANNESBURG (AP)—The World Cup is winding down, and with the final days come the big awards. Let FIFA decide the best player and stingiest goalkeeper. After a month packed with 62 games and 32 teams, there are lots of other prizes to be handed out for this first World Cup on the African continent.

Here are some World Cup awards for the good, the bad, the ugly and, of course, one for the octopus:

The Golden Vuvuzela: South Africa may have been the first World Cup host to fail to get out of the group stage, but Bafana Bafana was a delight from Siphiwe Tshabalala’s blistering left-footed shot in the opening game to the team dancing its way into the stadium for its final match (a win over the French, more on them later). The home fans were even better, enthusiastically cheering for every team and giving this World Cup a most distinct soundtrack with the blare of their vuvuzelas.

The New Glasses: England got robbed of a goal and Argentina was gifted one as officials created a highlight—or lowlight—reel of errors at this World Cup. The bad calls raised howls anew that soccer use video replay or other technologies, and FIFA president Sepp Blatter grudgingly agreed to consider it. But this is the same guy who once said, “Let’s leave football with errors,” so don’t bet on changes.

The Hand of God: Diego Maradona was every bit as entertaining as a coach as he was a player. Whether he was stalking the sidelines, grimacing over fouls as if they were personal assaults, or celebrating Argentina’s wins as if each was the tournament final, you couldn’t take your eyes off of him. There were no outrageous outbursts, and while the verdict is still out on whether he really can coach, he didn’t do anything to hurt Argentina, either.

The Silver Earplugs: Love ‘em or hate ‘em, those vuvuzelas and their swarm-of-bees sound stamped this World Cup as South Africa’s own. But don’t expect them to sweep the sports world. Wimbledon, the rugby World Cup, the Ultimate Fighting Championship all banned them. Not to be outdone, the United Arab Emirates’ General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments issued a fatwa against vuvuzelas if they exceed 100 decibels, which they usually do.

The Tarnished Ball: France behaved so abominably it might have locked this up for 2014, too. The defending runners-up staged a mutiny and refused to practice, pouting like a bunch of 3-year-olds in need of naps over coach Raymond Domenech’s decision to send Nicolas Anelka home following Anelka’s expletive-filled rant at halftime of the second group stage game. Oh, the French played abysmally, too, slinking home with one lousy point and one measly goal. Quelle catastrophe!

The Rusty Shoes: Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi may be the biggest thing going in the game these days, but they were World Cup flops. Messi was the main reason Argentina reached the quarterfinals, creating plays for his teammates and occupying opposing defenses’ attention. But he left without scoring a single goal. Ditto for Rooney. C’mon, guys. Even offensively challenged Greece managed to knock in a pair of goals. Ronaldo at least scored one goal, but it was more accidental than intentional. And stop with the flopping and the whining. It’s beyond tiresome.

BP sees progress on new oil-containment system

Work continues as oil leaks from BP's Gulf of Mexico well after the oil containment cap was removed so it could be replaced with a bigger cap, in the Gulf of Mexico, in this frame grab captured from a BP live video feed July 10, 2010. HOUSTON (Reuters) - BP Plc. is making progress on a delicate undersea operation to install a new containment cap on its blown-out Macondo well, and plans to activate a new oil-siphoning system later on Sunday, a company executive said.
BP on Saturday removed a cap over the well as part of a plan to install a bigger capping system that can capture up to 80,000 barrels per day (3.4 million gallons/12.7 million liters), up from about 25,000 bpd previously. Some describe of our products . When fully operational, the new cap will capture virtually all of the oil spewing from the well, according to retired Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen, the top U.S. oil spill official. The u jordan shoes :if you buy the products in our websites ,we will provide you the reasonable price(we can give you almost 60% off ) and then all of the products you buy are free shipping , besides, there are no other charges to pay .if you buy large volume of our products ,we will give you the VIP price ,which you can get a lot of tangible benefit from it .,we promise we will provide the best products and the cheapest price to you .
In the meantime, oil is spewing mostly unchecked from the well while BP completes the task.
"We're pleased with our progress," BP senior vice president Kent Wells told reporters on a conference call, reiterating that it will take four to seven days for undersea robots operating 1 mile below the sea surface to install the new containment system. The NFL-2010 jerseys wholesale nfl jerseys: If you buy the products in our websites ,all you buy is free shipping .and the price is more cheaper to other websites .besides ,you just pay for the products only ,there are no other charges to pay .what’s more the more you buy the more favourable terms you can get .we promise we will provide you the best products and the cheapest price .just action right now .
BP is also making final safety checks on a new containment ship, the Helix Producer, which will be able to siphon up to 25,000 bpd from the well, Wells said. BP expects the vessel to begin processing oil later on Sunday, he said.
BP's plan to ramp up oil collection capacity is expected to take two to three weeks. U.S. government experts have pegged the leak's flow at up to 60,000 bpd (2.5 million gallons/9.5 million liters).
The end-game to stop flow from the blown-out well is a pair of relief wells, which are expected to be complete in mid-August.
Senior Obama adviser David Axelrod said the President had been fully briefed and is confident BP's plan will work.
"There is some short-term back step here in order to get a much more secure situation," he told ABC's "This Week" Sunday talk show. "We have every reason to believe this will work," he added.

Gary Bettman Finally Gets One Right-Refusing Ilya Kovalchuk

Postby Michelle » Thu Jul 22, 2010 11:10 pm

Good job Gary Bettman! I finally get to say that. The long-term contracts had been used to circumvent the salary cap for the last several years, but Bettman may have finally put an end to that.NHL jerseys
The NHL has done a terrible job trying to figure out which contracts are cheating the salary cap and which are not. Starting last year, however, the NHL has done a decent job destroying these contracts.
It should have started last year with the Marian Hossa contract, which goes until he is 42. That is an insane age to be playing hockey unless your name is Chris Chelios; however, we do have to look at this from the league’s perspective.NFL jerseys

The legal system tells us a person is innocent until proven guilty; unless the NHL can prove Hossa agreed to retire early in exchange for all that money, they should not do anything.
For this reason the Hossa contract saved the Blackhawks $2 million per year in cap space (and we all know how much they need cap space), but what could the NHL do about it? Well you see the NHL is an exclusive club, like a university. For you to be kicked out they would have a proper trial, but unlike the legal system, they don’t have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you cheated; it can just be the balance of probabilities.
In the case of Hossa, they should realize that it is very likely that he will retire before the end of the contract. I might forgive Henrik Zetterberg because he would be 40, and it is not unheard of for a player to play into the age of 40, but Johan Franzen with all his injury history will not be able to play that long. NBA jerseys

I am fine with Duncan Keith and Alexander Ovechkin because they are young enough that they will play out their 13-year deals. This is reasonable as is the Rick Dipietro deal since he was also quite young before signing his deal.
However with Kovalchuk, it wasn’t just likely that he would retire long before the contract expired; it was beyond a reasonable doubt. This is why Bettman finally got the courage to say no to the deal. A $6 million cap hit until Kovalchuk is 45? No! MLB jersey

For that I applaud Bettman. It is very rare I applaud anyone, much less Bettman. Good for you, Mr. Commissioner. You made the best decision for the NHL, and I am proud to see you do that.
In fact, I started warming up to you when you waited until the contract was signed to inform Philadelphia that Chris Pronger’s cap hit would count regardless of whether he retires or not. I only wish I could have been there when Holmgren was given the news. It was a just way to punish a team trying to cheat the salary cap, I give you two thumbs up!
Now for the next CBA I, have already given you a myriad of solutions as to how to fix this loophole. Here is another one: have the team and the player declare how many years he is guaranteed to play, the cap will count for that long with a cap hit being equal to the average amount they pay per year up to that point. cheap NFL jerseys

The NHL teams should not have to be found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, they should never be in doubt.

What to do if your Constellation starts to slow down? The slow running movement is usually a sign that your watch needs to have at least a check up.

I would advance the argument that a watch is running seriously slow if it begins to lose more seconds per day that can be compensated by its micronometer regulator.

As vintage Omega Constellations and other comparable vintage watches increase in value, it is important to protect your investment, and that means not wearing a watch until it drops. Regular servicing can extend the life of a vintage watch through generations, but the slow running watch if left to its own devices will ultimately grind to a halt.

The manager was stunned

Postby abcd493 » Sun Jul 25, 2010 9:31 am

The manager was stunned, but then told the dog "the sign says you have to be good with a computer." The dog jumped down again and went to the computer. The dog proceeded to enter and execute a perfect program, that worked flawlessly the first time.

By this time the manager was totally dumb-founded!Vibram Five Fingers KSO Man Shoes black-black-2

The dog jumped down and went to a copy of the sign and put his paw on the sentences that told about being an Equal Opportunity Employer. The manager said "yes, but the sign *also* says that you have to be bilingual."

The dog looked at the manager calmly and said, "Meow!"

What is a dog

What is a dog?

- Dogs lie around all day, sprawled on the most comfortable piece of furniture in the house.
- They can hear a package of food opening half a block away,Five Fingers Classic Women

Five Fingers KSO Man
but they don't hear you when you are in the same room.
- They growl when they are not happy.
- When you want to play, they want to play.
- When you want to be alone, they want to play.
- They are great at begging.
- They will love you forever if you rub their tummies.
- They leave their toys everywhere.
- They do disgusting things with their mouths and then try to give you a kiss.

Conclusion: They are little men in fur coats.

Postby abcd493 » Fri Jul 30, 2010 10:45 am

We’ve been waiting to find out how Castlevania: The Adventure Rebirth would end up. Fortunately, Famitsu has finally provided the first look of the game in its latest issue. Buffalo Bills
Cincinnati Bengals
Cleveland BrownsThe magazine even states that the upcoming WiiWare title will be releasing in Japan in two weeks. It isn’t the best quality because the image taken isn’t a direct scan, but it’s better than nothing!
