Russia says U.S. spy accusations baseless and improper

Postby Michelle » Tue Jun 29, 2010 8:11 pm

Image (Reuters) - Russia on Tuesday said U.S. allegations that it had broken up a major Russian spy ring just days after President Dmitry Medvedev met Barack Obama in Washington were baseless and improper.ed hardy clothing

U.S. | World | Politics | Russia
U.S. authorities said on Monday they had arrested 10 suspected spies who had recruited political sources and gathered information for the Russian government.
"Such actions are baseless and improper," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement. "We do not understand what prompted the U.S. Justice Department to make a public statement in the spirit of Cold War espionage."louboutin shoes
"We deeply regret that all of this has happened against the background of the relations reset declared by the U.S. administration," it said.
U.S. authorities have charged 11 individuals with carrying out deep-cover work in the United States to recruit political sources and gather information for the Russian government.
The individuals were accused of collecting information ranging from research programs on small-yield, high-penetration nuclear warheads, the global gold market and trying to obtain background on people who applied for jobs at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), according to criminal complaints filed in a U.S. federal court.jordan shoes
The Justice Department accused them of operating under orders of Russia's SVR agency as "illegals"; the term applied in the intelligence world to agents infiltrated to live and operate under false identities, rather than officers who use diplomatic cover or other legitimate cover.
Authorities said 10 of them were arrested on Sunday in Boston, New York, New Jersey and Virginia on charges including conspiracy to act as unlawful agents of the Russian Federation and money laundering.wholesale MLB jersey
Moscow has repeatedly accused Western powers of maintaining spying operations against Russia despite the end of the Cold War. Western powers also complain of Russian activity, especially in the commercial and scientific area.
BLOW TO OBAMA
The allegations come just days after Obama hailed a "reset" in ties between the former Cold War rivals when the two leaders met in Washington.NFL jersey
Medvedev last week toured the United States to try to show that Russia is building an innovative, investor-friendly economy. The U.S. Justice Department announced the arrests hours after Medvedev returned to Russia from a G20 summit in Toronto, which was also attended by Obama.
"The choice of timing was particularly graceful," Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told journalists during a trip to Jerusalem.
Russian analysts said the timing suggested it was an attempt by U.S. officials to undermine the reset, which Obama's administration has hailed as a major foreign policy achievement.
"It's is a slap in the face to Barack Obama," said Anatoly Tsyganok, a political analyst at Moscow's Institute of Political and Military Analysis. Russia will inevitably follow Cold War etiquette and uncover an equal number of U.S. spies, he said.
The chief spokesman for Prime Minister Vladimir Putin told Reuters he had no comment on the spying allegations and said the allegations were unlikely to be discussed during Putin's meeting on Tuesday with former U.S. President Bill Clinton in Moscow.
The chief spokesman for the SVR foreign intelligence service, Sergei Ivanov, said: "There will be no comment."
The goal of the alleged spies was to "become sufficiently 'Americanized' such that they could gather information about the United States for Russia and can successfully recruit sources who are in, or are able to infiltrate, United States policy-making circles," according to court papers.
One alleged spy was accused of sending back information about leadership changes at the CIA.
The U.S. Justice Department said they received extensive training in coded communications, how to evade detection and how to pass messages to other agents while casually brushing past them in public places.
The arrests are the culmination of a multi-year investigation that used extensive surveillance of communications and wiretaps, including putting listening devices into the homes of the accused individuals, the Justice Department said.

Hurricane Alex pounds Mexico but spares U.S. oil rigs

MATAMOROS Mexico (Reuters) - Hurricane Alex drenched the Texas-Mexico border on Thursday as the powerful storm slammed into Mexico's Gulf coast, spawning tornadoes and flooding towns, but it spared U.S. oil wells.
U.S. | Green Business louboutin shoes
Unleashing winds of 105 mph that uprooted trees and knocked over flimsy houses, the Category 2 hurricane was a blow to efforts to control the BP Plc oil spill off the Louisiana coast, where some operations were suspended.jordan shoes
Rain from the first named storm of the 2010 Atlantic season swelled the streets of the port city of Matamoros. Across the border in Brownsville, Texas, at least three tornadoes swept through the area, although no major damage was reported.NFL jersey
"We are all exhausted and the water is up to our waists in the street," said a bedraggled man who gave his name as Juan as he struggled to reach a crowded shelter in Matamoros.
Alex has forced oil and gas companies to cut back production, even though the hurricane path was well southwest of major U.S. offshore facilities.
Oil companies still shut down production of more than 421,000 barrels per day, about a quarter of the Gulf's output, as a precaution.
They have also shut 919 million cubic feet per day of gas output, some 14 percent of the Gulf's total.
Efforts to burn off and skim spilled oil and spray dispersants were suspended at the BP leak. Officials said oil capturing and drilling would have to stop if the winds reach 46 mph.
Mexican marines evacuated thousands of people from fishing communities along the Gulf coast and into shelters, but some refused to leave their homes even as water ran in under doors.
"The primary threat from Alex will be torrential rains totaling as high as 20 inches, which would likely produce life-threatening flash floods and mudslides over the mountainous regions of Mexico," the U.S. National Hurricane Center said, adding that Alex was the first and strongest Category 2 hurricane to occur in June since 1966.NHL jersey
Alex made landfall on the Tamaulipas coast around 9 p.m. on Wednesday (0200 GMT on Thursday), the Miami-based center said. Its rains had already flooded highways as far inland as the industrial city of Monterrey.
One man died in Monterrey on Wednesday when his house collapsed in the heavy rains, rescue authorities said. Alex killed a dozen people in Central America over the weekend

Klose Scored 2nd and 4th, Help Germany Win over Argentina

Germany Miroslav Klose made his 100th international appearance a big success by scored the 2nd and the 4th goal and helped Germany 4-0 up against Argentina in their World Cup quarter-final on Saturday.

Miroslav Klose tapped in from close range in the 68th minute after Lukas Podolski had got behind the German defence. It was Klose’s 13th World Cup goal and 51st for Germany. And at the end, in the 89th, he scored again.

Germany had taken the lead in the third minute when Thomas Mueller glanced in a wicked Bastian Schweinsteiger free kick.

Finally, powerful Germany beat the Argentina with 4-0. No one has expected that the supposed mouth- watering game will have such a result.

Ed Reed to Miss the Start of Regular Season

Postby yangya147 » Thu Jul 22, 2010 12:19 pm

Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed is recovering from offseason hip surgery and he is expected to be placed on the physically-unable-to-perform list, missing the first six games of the season.

Reed had estimated in a recent radio interview he was only 35 percent healthy. He said Tuesday his rehab is a slow process. With training camp drawing near, the chances of Reed landing on the PUP list increased.

Reed, 31, missed four games during December because of a variety of injuries, including problems with his neck, hip and groin.

"I'm going to get out there when I feel good. I can't give you a date. I don't know," Reed said.

Ravens veterans are schedule to report to training camp on July 28. But it seems that Ed Reed is not healthy enough to join the camp on time. And it is likely that the Ravens will miss him at the beginning of the season.

Once Ed Reed is well and ready, he will be back. At this moment, he should focus on reconstructing his whole hip.

The lawyer persists and explains

Postby abcd493 » Sun Jul 25, 2010 3:17 pm

A lawyer and a blonde are sitting next to each other on a long flight from LA to NY. The lawyer leans over to her and asks if she would like to play a fun game. The blonde just wants to take a nap, so she politely declines and rolls over to the window to catch a few winks.

The lawyer persists and explains that the game is really easy and a lot of fun. He explains" I ask you a question, and if you don't know the answer, you pay me $5, and vice-versa." Again, she politely declines and tries to get some sleep.

The lawyer, now somewhat agitated, says, "Okay, if you don't know the answer you pay me $5, and if I don't know the answer, I will pay you $500," figuring that since she is a blonde that he will easily win the match. This catches the blonde's attention and, figuring that there will be no end to this torment unless she plays, agrees to the game.

What to do if your Constellation starts to slow down? The slow running movement is usually a sign that your watch needs to have at least a check up.

I would advance the argument that a watch is running seriously slow if it begins to lose more seconds per day that can be compensated by its micronometer regulator.

As vintage Omega Constellations and other comparable vintage watches increase in value, it is important to protect your investment, and that means not wearing a watch until it drops. Regular servicing can extend the life of a vintage watch through generations, but the slow running watch if left to its own devices will ultimately grind to a halt.
